Andrew and I took Ty to the doctor on Monday to discuss his sleep apnea and snoring. Ty's tonsils are definitely a problem so we have scheduled surgery for March 25th. The doctor thinks that his tonsils are partly responsible for his slow growth and the swollen lymph node that has been on his neck for 2 years now. Hopefully this will help alleviate the problems. This will be the first time any of our kids will be under general anesthesia so I am a bit nervous. Ty is four and should handle the recovery well, unlike his Auntie Jamie who just had hers removed and had a rough time. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh my dear sweet Ty!!! I wouldn't wish that pain on ANYONE!! Especially not you.
I'm sure he'll handle it a lot better than I did. I hope they don't give him the same liquid Codeine and Acetaminophen medication they gave me. That junk was NASTY! Can Ty swallow pills, by chance? I felt bad dumping the leftover stuff down the drain for fear it would ruin the pipes.
The best things to eat are ice water, shave ice, popscicles and then eventually cottage cheese and applesauce--with lots of ice water. Fruit juices (i.e. Jamba Juice) are too acidic and burn the throat. Milkshakes/ice cream are too thick--they require multiple swallows to get them down.
Good Luck!!
We will certainly keep Ty (and all of you in our prayers. Oh, you might want to check out Dave & Bonnie's link (via my site) as their son, Nik, just underwent a tonsilectomy (amongst other surgeries). He seems to be doing just fine.
And I gotta tell you that little kiddos seem to bounce back so quickly from these procedures, I think it's the parents that it's harder on.
Good luck.
Oh no Ty D.! Stock up on popsicles! I hope his recovery is MUCH less severe than his Auntie Jamie's... That did NOT sound like fun for her to go through.
I think I'd be better off without my tonsils too, but I'm afraid of pain!
Good Lucky little Ty! :D
Definetly stock up on popsicles. I have heard more times than I care to count, Keep them hydrated even if they resist because that can cause problems that you don't want and could lead to going back to the hospital. Luckily he is 4 so he will do so much better with recovery! I wish I would have had it done years ago. I wouldn't even attempt it now (adults have a horrible recovery) Big hugs!
